Orienting Towards Pleasure

Orienting towards joy offers you an opportunity to play, to get to know yourself, and witness yourself thorough the lens of curiosity and compassion.

As you move through your days, take moments to practice orienting towards what brings you joy and pleasure. This doesn’t mean you bypass the hard stuff. You learn how to hold the hard things AND also orient towards what feels good or even neutral. From there, you grow your capacity for JOY + PLEASURE as well as have access to your wholeness, embracing life in all it’s realness-broken, messy, joyful, vivid, alive!

This is SLOW work.

Some days you will be able to hold it all and other days it will be much harder.

Be gentle with yourself.

IDEAS FOR JOY + PLEASURE PRACTICES

  • make a pleasure journal

  • put signs around your house to remind you of your pleasures

  • make a playlist of songs that awaken a sense of aliveness

  • take a walk outside intentionally looking for the smallest things that make you smile

  • light a candle, incense, or anything that has a scent you enjoy

  • Take a few minutes to sit quietly with eyes closed allowing for any and all images, words and inspiration that sparks joy

When finished, find a moment of gratitude for what might have emerged

  • bring to mind someone that brings you a feeling of happy satisfaction. Maybe give them a call, write them a note of thank you or simply keep them in your heart.

  • listen to a meditation geared towards orienting towards pleasure
